Loading the Ceramic Bowl (Chamber)
Molasses, screens, packing technique, and the one step everyone misses.
A well-packed bowl is the difference between a balanced session and a burnt one. The packing technique for VOLTA is slightly different from traditional coal hookah because the heat comes from above and from the sides at the same time.
What you need
- 1× Ceramic Bowl (Chamber)
- 1× bottom screen
- 1× upper screen
- ~10g of molasses
- The included fork or your fingers
Steps
- Place a bottom screen at the base of the Ceramic Bowl (Chamber).
- Load ~10g of molasses into the bowl on top of the screen.
- Fluff the molasses with your fingers or the fork. It should sit loose, not packed down. Loose molasses heats evenly.
- Cover the bowl with an upper screen.
- Wipe the bowl rim clean with a tissue or cloth.
Why the bowl rim matters
Any molasses on the rim of the bowl will burn during the session and can be inhaled. Wiping the rim is the single fastest way to avoid a harsh first pull.
How much molasses to use
10g is the sweet spot for VOLTA. Less, and the bowl runs dry faster. More, and the upper screen sits too close to the heat. If you're new to packing, weigh it the first few times until you can eyeball it.
