No smoke when I draw
Three common causes when no smoke comes through the hose. Run through these first.
If you draw on the hose and no smoke comes out, the issue is usually one of three things: power, lock status, or airflow.
Quick checks
Run through these in order. Most "no smoke" issues resolve at one of the first two.
1. Is VOLTA powered on
Check the OLED screen. If it's dark, press the Power (O) button. If nothing happens, the battery may be empty or in protection mode. See Won't charge or unusual charging behavior.
If the screen is on but shows a flashing or low battery icon, charge the device for at least 30 minutes before continuing.
2. Is the screen locked
A locked screen ignores button input. It's easy to lock by accident.
Unlock by clicking the Power (O) button 4 times.
3. Is the airflow blocked
Molasses can fall into the ventilation holes during a session, blocking airflow.
- Power off and let the device cool for 30 minutes
- Remove the top cap and the Ceramic Bowl (Chamber) using the included tweezers
- Check the bottom of the bowl and the ventilation holes for blockage
- Wipe or brush away any molasses or debris
Still no smoke
If all three checks pass and you still get nothing, see Light is on but no smoke for further steps, or submit a support ticket with a description of what you're seeing on the OLED screen.

Light is on but no smoke
VOLTA is heating but nothing's coming through. The cause is usually a blockage somewhere in the airway.
Burnt taste or weak flavor
Temperature is too high or too low. Dial in the right setting for your tobacco.
Liquid leakage
When liquid around the device is normal, and when it's a sign of something to fix.
