Won't charge or unusual charging behavior
Three causes to check before you assume the battery is dead.
If VOLTA isn't charging, won't power on after charging, or shows odd behavior while plugged in, there are three common causes. Work through them in order.
1. Check the charging port
Lint, dust, or moisture in the USB-C port will block proper contact between the cable and the device.
- Power VOLTA off
- Use a dry cotton swab to gently clean inside the port
- Do not use water, alcohol, or any liquid
- Try charging again
2. Try a different cable or adapter
USB-C cables degrade over time, especially around the connector. The included cable is your best test.
- Try the cable that came with VOLTA
- Try a different USB-C wall adapter
- Try plugging into a different power source (laptop, power bank, different outlet)
If charging works with a different cable or adapter, the original was the issue.
3. Recover from battery protection mode
If the battery has been fully discharged and sitting for a while, it may enter a protection mode where it appears completely dead.
- Connect VOLTA to the charger
- Leave it plugged in for at least 30 minutes
- The screen may not come on during this recovery period. That's expected.
- After 30 minutes, try powering the device on
Still won't charge
If you've worked through all three steps and VOLTA still won't charge, submit a support ticket. Include:
- The cable and adapter you've been using
- What the OLED screen shows (if anything) when plugged in
- How long the device has been sitting unused
The battery carries a 6-month warranty. See the Warranty article for claim details.
