Connecting VOLTA on iOS using the sxbrowser
The iOS connection takes one extra step. Here's why, and exactly what to do.
Connecting VOLTA on iPhone or iPad takes an extra step compared to Android. Because of App Store policy, our control app isn't a native iOS app. Instead, you'll install a dedicated web browser and use it to open our web app.
What you need
- iPhone or iPad
- Your VOLTA, powered on
- A few minutes
Steps
- Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to https://www.sxbrowser.com/.
- Download and install the Labeling Browser (called sxbrowser).
- Allow any permission prompts that appear during installation.
- Open the sxbrowser app on your phone.
- In the sxbrowser address bar, type or paste https://shishax.app/.
- Make sure VOLTA is powered on and nearby.
- On the web app, tap Launch.
- Select your VOLTA from the device list that appears.
- If a firmware update is available, follow the prompts to install it.
Why a separate browser
Apple's App Store doesn't currently approve native apps for hookah-adjacent devices. The sxbrowser is a workaround that gives you the same functionality through a web app, with proper Bluetooth and Wi-Fi access.
What if Launch doesn't find my device
- Make sure VOLTA is powered on and not locked
- Check that Bluetooth is enabled in the Device Settings menu on VOLTA
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
- Move closer to the device, ideally within 2 meters
- See the Pairing article for more help
