Pairing your device for the first time: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi setup

The full pairing flow, from enabling Bluetooth on VOLTA to optional Wi-Fi setup.

Pairing connects your VOLTA to the ShishaX app, unlocking app-based controls and firmware updates. You'll do this once, then your phone remembers your VOLTA for future sessions.

Before you start

Make sure you've already installed the right app for your phone:

  • iOS: sxbrowser with the shishax.app web app loaded
  • Android: ShishaX Sync App from Google Play

Step 1: enable Bluetooth on VOLTA

  1. From the home screen, press Down (<) + Up (>) to open Device Settings.
  2. Use < or > to highlight Bluetooth.
  3. Press Power (O) to toggle Bluetooth on.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the menu to close.

The Bluetooth icon in the OLED status bar will indicate when it's active.

Step 2: enable Bluetooth on your phone

Open your phone's settings and make sure Bluetooth is on.

Step 3: pair through the app

  1. Open the app (sxbrowser with shishax.app loaded, or ShishaX Sync).
  2. Tap Launch.
  3. Your VOLTA will appear in the device list with a name like VOLTA_xxxx, where xxxx is unique to your device.
  4. Tap your VOLTA to pair.

The app should confirm pairing within a few seconds. The Bluetooth icon on VOLTA's screen stays active when paired.

Step 4 (optional): connect VOLTA to your home Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is required for OTA firmware updates and some advanced app features. VOLTA connects to your home Wi-Fi network. You don't connect your phone to VOLTA.

Before you start:

  • Your home router must broadcast a 2.4GHz network. VOLTA doesn't support 5GHz.
  • Have your home Wi-Fi name and password ready.

To connect:

  1. From the home screen, press < + > to open Device Settings.
  2. Highlight Wi-Fi and press O to toggle on.
  3. In the ShishaX app, go to Device Settings, then Wi-Fi.
  4. Enter your Wi-Fi Name (your home network, same as SSID).
  5. Enter your Wi-Fi password. Both fields are case-sensitive.
  6. Tap Connect.

VOLTA will join your network and confirm in the app once it's connected.

Troubleshooting

If your VOLTA doesn't appear in the device list:

  • Confirm Bluetooth is on in both the device and the phone
  • Confirm VOLTA isn't locked (4 clicks O to unlock)
  • Move within 2 meters of the device
  • Restart the app and try again
