Setting temperature: independent Cap (Top) and Side control

Updated May 18, 2026·By ShishaX Support

VOLTA has two heating zones. Tune them separately for the bowl, the leaf, and your taste.

VOLTA's dual-zone heating system gives you separate control over two heat sources: the Cap (also called the Top) and the Side (the surrounding sides of the bowl). Setting them independently lets you tune the session for different molasses types, bowl packs, and personal taste.

How to set Cap (Top) temperature

  1. From the home screen, click the Down (<) button once.
  2. The screen switches to the Cap Temperature view.
  3. Use < and > to adjust between 50°C and 360°C.
  4. Wait a few seconds. The screen returns to home and auto-saves.

How to set Side temperature

  1. From the home screen, click the Up (>) button once.
  2. The screen switches to the Side Temperature view.
  3. Use < and > to adjust between 100°C and 250°C.
  4. Wait a few seconds. The screen auto-saves.

What happens when you adjust temps directly

When you change Cap or Side temperature on the device, VOLTA switches to a built-in preset called Custom. This is a single-stage profile that holds your chosen temperatures for the full session.

If you want a multi-stage profile (different temperatures across different parts of the bowl's lifecycle), build it in the ShishaX app. See Creating and editing heat presets.

When to favor Cap heat

  • Dense packs that need top-down heat penetration
  • Dark leaf tobacco that responds well to higher direct heat
  • Bowls that are pulling weak at the top of the session

When to favor Side heat

  • Loose packs that need gentle, even cooking
  • Blonde leaf tobacco that burns easily with direct heat
  • Extending session life on a long bowl

Where to start

If you're using the ShishaX app, try one of our default presets as a starting point. Each is built as a multi-stage profile that adapts heat through the session. Copy and edit one to make it your own.

If you're using device-only mode, start with both zones at the same temperature (around 200°C) and adjust from there.
